Over 40% of the population in Bangladesh is illiterate. We now have four adult classes with 60 students. These parents are thrilled to learn to read and write along with their children.
Thanks to donors like you we are now able to provide a full meal three times per week consisting of rice, lentils, vegetables, and eggs (two eggs per week). Banana and bread is provided the other two days.
BanglaHelp supports five slum schools at this time, where over 500 children receive education. These students come from extreme poverty and their parents cannot afford even basic school supplies. This simple school, with students sitting on mats placed on the floor, is the only place where they can receive education. Our team provides these children the opportunity to read and write both Bengali and English. In 2017 we have added four other classes where we have 60 adult students.
The students rarely have full meals with fruits and vegetables in their homes. At this time we are providing a full meal three times per week and a banana and bread the other two days. As donations increase we hope to provide a full meal every day of the week. This small effort has improved the health of the children. This added nourishment will greatly improve the physical, mental, and spiritual well being of the students. If you are interested in being a part of this cause or to donate click here.
To provide education and meals to a school of 100 children costs us approximately $1,500-1,700 per month.
